en.Wedoany.com Reported - The launch meeting for China's mandatory national standard for "Hot-Rolled H-Shaped Steel for Building Structures" was recently held in Beijing, marking the official start of the compilation of China's first mandatory national standard for hot-rolled H-shaped steel in the construction sector.

Xia Nong, Vice President of the China Iron and Steel Association; Pan Beichen, First-Level Inspector of the Standard Technology Management Department of the State Administration for Market Regulation; Wang Ke, Second-Level Principal Staff Member of the Raw Materials Industry Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology; and Ma Xinbo, Director of the Science and Technology and Industrialization Development Center of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, delivered speeches at the meeting. Zhang Longqiang, Party Secretary and President of the Metallurgical Industry Information and Standards Research Institute, gave an address. Wu Baoqiao, Engineering Scientist at China Baowu, introduced the background and compilation status of the standard. Wang Bin, Deputy Secretary-General and Director of the Planning and Development Department of the China Iron and Steel Association, attended the meeting. Cheng Ding, Chairman of the National Steel Standardization Technical Committee's Section Steel Subcommittee, presided over the meeting and delivered a summary.

Xia Nong pointed out that hot-rolled H-shaped steel is the primary load-bearing structural material for steel structure buildings, widely used in major projects such as civil buildings, industrial buildings, municipal facilities, and urban renewal. Its standardization level and requirements directly impact project quality and safety, the level of the industrial chain, and the process of green and low-carbon transformation. The compilation and implementation of this mandatory national standard is a necessary path for the steel industry to adapt to the high-quality development needs of the construction industry, regulate market order, and promote the high-end, intelligent, and green development of hot-rolled H-shaped steel. It is an effective way to fill the gaps in standards for steel used in building structures, empower industrial upgrading, and support the new industrialization of the construction industry. It is also an objective requirement for the coordinated and integrated development of the steel and construction industries, enhancing the overall quality level and comprehensive competitive advantage of the entire industrial chain.

Xia Nong emphasized that the compilation work should adhere to a goal-oriented and problem-oriented approach, follow the requirements of high-quality development and adapt to the trend of industrial upgrading, focus on downstream demand and uphold the concept of integrated development across the entire industrial chain, while also adhering to principles such as industry-academia-research-application collaboration, scientific pragmatism, and open innovation. Specifically, five key tasks need to be prioritized: optimizing the specification system of hot-rolled H-shaped steel guided by "fewer specifications, more combinations, and higher efficiency"; strictly controlling tolerance indicators to reduce the fluctuation range of product quality and improve product quality stability, consistency, and reliability; promoting the iterative upgrading of steel quality, gradually phasing out materials with low strength, poor performance, and poor adaptability, and upgrading H-shaped steel towards high strength, high toughness, and high durability; accelerating work on the basis of ensuring scientific content and sufficient demonstration; and simultaneously implementing standard implementation and supporting measures covering all stages of material selection, design, construction, and acceptance.

Zhang Longqiang introduced that in the field of H-shaped steel, relevant standards covering basic general requirements, seismic resistance, weather resistance, galvanization, stainless steel, and composites have been established, forming a relatively complete standard system. The development of this mandatory national standard is an important measure by the National Steel Standardization Technical Committee to implement the requirement of "accelerating the establishment of a coordinated and unified mandatory national standard system, and firmly safeguarding the bottom line of protecting human health, life and property safety, and ecological environmental safety." It is a significant supplement to the hot-rolled H-shaped steel standard system. As the secretariat undertaking unit, the Metallurgical Industry Information and Standards Research Institute will strengthen organization and coordination to ensure efficient progress, adhere to scientific rigor to ensure standard quality, and enhance communication and collaboration to pool wisdom from all parties.

Wu Baoqiao stated that currently, hot-rolled H-shaped steel production enterprises face production constraints, lack subsequent assembly processes and technical accumulation, making it difficult to expand into broader end-use application markets. Meanwhile, steel structure processing enterprises have insufficient understanding of the product characteristics and application advantages of hot-rolled H-shaped steel, incurring additional "adaptation" modification costs in subsequent processing. This has prevented the formation of an effective "win-win" channel for product application between the two sides. Formulating this mandatory national standard will help resolve the issue of standard matching in the industrial chain, shorten the supply-demand cycle, save manufacturing costs, promote the efficient application of hot-rolled H-shaped steel, facilitate the collaborative upgrading of the upstream and downstream industrial chains, and drive the green and high-quality development of the steel structure industry.

At the meeting, representatives from participating units discussed the compilation framework, ideas, and main technical indicators of the draft "Hot-Rolled H-Shaped Steel for Building Structures," exchanged views and opinions, and put forward relevant suggestions. In the months prior to the meeting, the standard compilation team conducted field research and visits to 25 units, including architectural design institutes, steel structure processing enterprises, steel production enterprises, specialized higher education institutions, the Science and Technology and Industrialization Development Center of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, and the China Steel Construction Society. They collected opinions from relevant units on aspects such as product steel grades, model specifications, and dimensional tolerances required for the application of hot-rolled H-shaped steel in building structures.
