en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Port Authority of Seville (Autoridad Portuaria de Sevilla, APS) has renewed its Environmental Management System (SGA) based on the PERS (Port Environmental Review System) standard for the third consecutive time. This certification, initiated by the EcoPorts network and recommended by the European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO), is regarded as the most important and specific European standard in the port industry.

First obtained in 2022, this renewal is attributed to key initiatives completed over the past two years. These include the development of a new noise map, the compilation of an environmental code of conduct, the publication of a guide to good environmental practices for handling solid bulk cargo, the installation and use of sprayers, and the release of the 2024-2025 sustainability report.

The EcoPorts network, affiliated with ESPO, is dedicated to enhancing the sustainability, environmental performance, and operational efficiency of European ports through infrastructure cooperation and knowledge sharing. The PERS certification is granted after an independent audit of the environmental management system by the certification body Lloyd's Register, confirming compliance with the standard.

Achieving this certification positions the Port of Seville (Puerto de Sevilla) at the forefront of sustainability in Europe, fostering collaboration with technical support partners and prioritizing sustainability as a core organizational guarantee. This external recognition extends the ISO 14001 standard by incorporating specific requirements tailored to the port sector.

Currently, 26 ports across Europe hold this environmental accreditation. Specifically, the Port of Seville is one of nine Spanish ports maintaining valid PERS certification, alongside Bilbao, Barcelona, Castellón, Valencia, Ceuta, Melilla, Huelva, and Algeciras.

Additionally, the APS has passed an audit by the certification body Bureau Veritas, renewing its integrated quality and environmental management system certification based on the UNE-EN ISO 9001 and 14001 standards. The scope of this management system has been expanded to cover all activities of the authority, ensuring compliance with the quality and environmental requirements stipulated by these international standards.

Both certifications are valid until May 2029. Their scope includes: provision of general services; management and control of port services; planning of port service areas and port uses; management of the port public domain; planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operation of port works and services; management of subordinate aids to navigation; and planning and coordination of maritime and land traffic within the port.
