en.Wedoany.com Reported - A gas/condensate discovery in the Norwegian North Sea has been confirmed by Wellesley Petroleum and its partners. The discovery was made following the drilling of appraisal well 35/10-16 S using the Deepsea Yantai semi-submersible drilling rig, operated by Odfjell Drilling.

This well is the third drilled in production license 1148, aimed at evaluating the Carmen discovery. The Carmen discovery was initially encountered in 2023 in wells 35/10-10 S and 35/10-10 A. The well is located approximately 25 kilometers northwest of the Troll field and 35 kilometers east of the Kvitebjørn field, in a water depth of 365 meters.

Drilling results indicate that the well encountered a gas/condensate column in the Ness, Etive, and Oseberg formations of the Middle Jurassic Brent Group, as well as in the Cook formation of the Lower Jurassic. A 14.6-meter gas/condensate column was encountered in the Ness formation, with reservoir rock quality ranging from poor to very good. The Etive formation yielded a 41.3-meter gas/condensate column with poor to moderate reservoir quality. A 5-meter gas column was encountered in the Oseberg formation, with the gas/water contact at 3,966 meters below sea level. The Cook formation exhibited poor to moderate reservoir properties, with only oil and gas shows.

Preliminary recoverable resource estimates range from 3.4 to 17 million standard cubic meters of oil equivalent, equivalent to 21 to 107 million barrels of oil equivalent. The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 4,153 meters below sea level and has been permanently plugged and abandoned. Wellesley Petroleum, DNO, Equinor, and Aker BP will evaluate options for tying the discovery back to existing infrastructure in the area, with potential additional wildcat wells to be drilled subsequently.

The Deepsea Yantai will next drill appraisal well 35/7-2 on the Afrodite discovery in production license 293.
