en.Wedoany.com Reported - Spanish architecture firm HArquitectes has completed a versatile event space called ésdevé in the center of Granollers, transformed from a narrow plot of land. The structure features exposed concrete as its core, connecting two functional volumes through a central courtyard.

The project was commissioned by Vallès entrepreneur Víctor Font and his partner Esther Arnan, who wanted to create a flexible space in the heart of Granollers for corporate events, private dining, meetings, product launches, wine tastings, food tastings, photo shoots, training sessions, and workshops. The building sits between two pedestrian streets, just minutes from the historic Plaça de la Porxada.

HArquitectes, co-founded by Granollers-born architect David Lorente, had previously designed the residential project Casa 1014 for the client, which was shortlisted for the FAD Awards. In this new design, the architects left the central area of the plot empty (due to regulatory restrictions), creating a large void courtyard that connects two raised concrete volumes at either end.

The design of the two concrete roofs becomes the most expressive element of the scheme. Their sloped geometry and height allow the roofs to open onto the courtyard through foldable window frames, blurring the boundary between interior and exterior.

The foldable enclosure system gives the two volumes the required flexibility, allowing the space to adapt to different types of events. One side houses the kitchen area, the other the dining area, with the central courtyard connecting the two main functional spaces.

The space is organized around two staircases, bathed in natural light and ventilated through skylights above. The staircases connect the two entrances and lead to the basement, which houses restrooms, part of the kitchen, and private areas.

The building maintains a single material finish of exposed concrete throughout. In one of the volumes, the owners have retained a private area; the corresponding area in the opposite volume serves as a multipurpose hall, suitable for meetings, dinners, or small concerts.

The exposed concrete finish is contrasted by the choice of furniture and lighting. The dining area features PH5 Mini pendant lamps by Poul Henningsen for Louis Poulsen, paired with Mesa B tables in extruded aluminum by Konstantin Grcic for BD Barcelona, and Betty TK1 chairs by Thau & Kallio for &Tradition.

The project name "ésdevé" borrows from the Catalan word "esdeveniment" (event). In its first year of operation, the space has hosted launches, exhibitions, pop-up stores, photo shoots, and photography events.
