en.Wedoany.com Reported - Clustag, leveraging Impinj R700 readers and Gen2X technology, achieved over 99% item-level shipment verification accuracy under the challenging conditions of densely packed metal items, meeting a leading retailer's stringent requirement of completing verification within 1.5 seconds.
In warehouses and distribution centers, autonomous RAIN RFID solutions transform items flowing through the supply chain into data sources, providing accurate, continuous item-level information for AI systems to revolutionize operations. Retailers, logistics providers, and warehouse operators increasingly rely on item-level visibility and traceability to automate processes, reduce shipping errors, and support faster, more efficient omnichannel fulfillment. The core challenge for this retailer was that these autonomous solutions must consistently deliver near-perfect data accuracy in challenging RF environments, while handling increasingly smaller RFID tags densely placed in cases, cartons, and packages. Previously, the retailer's existing RFID system averaged only 91.7% verification accuracy.
To achieve near-100% verification accuracy in high-throughput intralogistics environments, Clustag upgraded the MOT S20 RFID tunnel, powered by Impinj R700 readers, to support Impinj Gen2X. This solution combines Clustag's patented RFID shielding technology with Gen2X's improved tag readability and read zone confinement, creating a highly controlled RF environment that minimizes interference and stray reads, enabling reliable item-level verification.
This controlled RF environment enables a fully automated verification process, where cases, cartons, and packages move continuously through the RAIN tunnel without manual intervention, increasing throughput while ensuring stable and reliable reads.
To validate the solution's performance under real-world conditions, Clustag and Impinj conducted tests at Impinj's RFID Solutions Lab in Seattle, Washington. The tests replicated the retailer's operational environment: 60 RFID-tagged metal glass boxes densely packed inside each carton, conveyed through the MOT S20 tunnel, with each carton required to be read within 1.5 seconds. Achieving over 99% accuracy under these conditions is extremely challenging—metal items detune tag antennas, reflect RF energy, and cause multipath interference; random tag orientation eliminates optimal positioning; and dense packing increases tag-to-tag interactions. These factors collectively create one of the most challenging environments for autonomous RFID verification systems.
Test results showed that the previous non-Gen2X solution averaged only 91.7% accuracy over 100 tests. In contrast, the upgraded solution—equipped with R700 readers and Impinj M800 tags—achieved near-perfect accuracy: 90 out of 100 tests reached 100% verification accuracy. Gen2X enables the system to reliably deliver high read accuracy even under extreme tag density, complex item composition, and strict time constraints.
Manolo Reguart, Director of Business Development, Strategy, and Alliances at Clustag, stated that using Gen2X-enabled Impinj R700 readers and M830 tags, the MOT S20 can read densely packed tags on difficult-to-read metal items with nearly 100% accuracy, enabling high-volume logistics operations to achieve superior shipment verification and unlock new levels of efficiency.
The MOT S20 seamlessly integrates with warehouse and distribution center workflows, and Gen2X-enhanced item data can feed supply chain AI systems to support continuous traceability of inventory movement. Automating critical business processes such as shipment verification requires near-perfect accuracy, and the Gen2X-enabled autonomous reading solution demonstrates how the Impinj platform drives the next generation of automated reading solutions.
