en.Wedoany.com Reported - Meyer Werft, based in Papenburg, and MSC Cruises have expressed optimism about successfully concluding negotiations on a multi-billion euro cruise ship order within the coming weeks. In February, MSC Cruises indicated its hope to finalize the agreement by the end of June. Late last year, MSC Cruises signed a letter of intent with the government-rescued Meyer Werft for a major order worth up to 10 billion euros, planning to build four to six cruise ships. This order would ensure full capacity utilization for Meyer Werft until 2035.

Meyer Werft received capital injections and credit support from the German federal government and the state of Lower Saxony, each holding a 40% stake in 2024, thereby overcoming its financial difficulties. If this order is ultimately finalized, it will ensure the shipyard's full production capacity through the mid-2030s. Both parties stated that detailed design planning and contract negotiations have entered an advanced stage, with the final agreement encompassing a series of complex contractual documents. MSC Cruises previously stated that the new ships will be equipped with liquefied natural gas power systems and incorporate environmental technologies such as shore power connections and waste heat recovery to enhance operational efficiency.

Meyer Werft emphasized that the order's realization would provide long-term planning security for the company, helping to stabilize employment and technical teams while driving the development of the local supply chain. Meyer Werft has accumulated extensive experience in building large cruise ships, and this collaboration will continue its technological trajectory in the high-end cruise ship market.
