en.Wedoany.com Reported - Avangrid, a subsidiary of Iberdrola, announced plans to build the Shutler Energy Storage Project in Gilliam County, Oregon, with a capacity of 41MW/82MWh, expected to be operational in 2027. This project will become Iberdrola's first large-scale battery energy storage facility in the United States.

The Shutler Energy Storage Project will be located near Avangrid's two existing facilities and one under construction, aiming to support the operation of the company's independent balancing authority. This authority is responsible for real-time management of the power supply-demand balance of Avangrid's 3GW generation assets in the Pacific Northwest. Once completed, the project will serve as a flexible, fast-response resource to enhance grid reliability, with a single discharge capable of meeting the electricity needs of approximately 3,000 U.S. households.

During construction, the project is expected to create approximately 35 local union jobs. Additionally, Avangrid will donate $55,000 annually to each of two non-profit organizations in Gilliam County—the Condon Early Learning Center and the Arlington Childcare Center—to support local early childhood education.

Avangrid CEO Jose Antonio Miranda stated: "The Shutler Energy Storage Project reflects Avangrid's long-term commitment to Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. This project adds a flexible resource that will enhance grid reliability, support jobs, and ensure that the energy generated is available when it is needed most."
