Anas will sign a contract with the construction company on July 6, marking the official launch of this long-awaited local road infrastructure. The highway will connect the Ghemme toll booth on the A26 motorway with Masserano, which serves as the starting point for the expressway to Biella.

The progress of the Pedemontana highway has experienced multiple delays, revisions, and complex funding issues. Although Cipess (the Italian Committee for Infrastructure and Transport Planning) approved the project as early as 2021, further design and approval processes were still required before actual construction could begin. The technical committee responsible for supporting the project's implementation recently held a meeting with the Piedmont region, Anas, and relevant local governments, confirming that construction will start on July 6.

The project has a total investment of approximately €384 million and spans about 15 kilometers, aiming to connect Provincial Road 142 with the A26 motorway. The construction directly involves the municipalities of Masserano, Roasio, Gattinara, and Ghemme, and includes the construction of four strategic interchanges to improve road connections between the Biellese, Vercellese, and Novarese areas. Major works include building a viaduct over the Sesia River south of Gattinara, which will be the first facility to start construction within the work zone.
