en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Swedish Transport Administration, Trafikverket, has awarded Implenia the construction contract for the E16 Korsvägen station in Gothenburg, which is part of the West Link (Västlänken) infrastructure project. The contract is valued at over CHF 250 million (approximately USD 308 million) and is managed under a cost-plus reimbursement model.

The contract is part of the broader West Link program, aimed at strengthening railway connections and improving the commuting experience for Gothenburg travelers. Korsvägen station will be one of three underground stations in the West Link project. In addition to station construction, the contract also covers the installation of technical systems. Located in the city center, the station is expected to become a major public transport hub.

Once completed, the station will improve access to notable landmarks such as Liseberg amusement park, the Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre, and the Universeum science museum. Project plans indicate that these improvements are intended to expand railway capacity and promote more sustainable travel modes in the region.

Erwin Scherer, Head of Implenia's Civil Engineering division, stated that this project is a strong addition to the company's portfolio of large-scale infrastructure projects in Northern Europe, demonstrating its ability to address complex urban transport challenges. He expressed hope for a successful collaboration with Trafikverket to realize Korsvägen station. Implenia was selected through a competitive bidding process, with Trafikverket evaluating bids based on project start-up efficiency, organizational structure, and logistics.

In 2024, Implenia was chosen to build another section of the West Link, including a railway tunnel and the new underground Haga station. Construction of Korsvägen station will take place in a densely populated urban area, requiring careful planning and close coordination. Implenia stated that it will combine proven construction methods with digital tools to achieve efficient and safe execution. The project will be delivered under an execution contract, with a focus on resource efficiency and reducing environmental impact.

The West Link project aims to support broader goals of regional economic growth and sustainable urban development by increasing train frequency, reducing travel times, and providing passengers with more direct routes.
