en.Wedoany.com Reported - A new road tunnel project in southern Germany, the Auerbergtunnel, is scheduled to begin construction in mid-July 2026. The project has a total investment of €240 million and is jointly managed by the German state-owned road company Autobahn GmbH and the State Building Authority in Weilheim. The project is expected to be completed by 2031.

The Auerberg Tunnel is part of the extension of the A95 motorway south of Munich, connecting Oberau and Eschenlohe, ultimately leading to the Garmisch-Partenkirchen region. The project includes a twin-tube tunnel approximately 1.9 kilometers long, with two lanes in each tube. In addition to the tunnel, about 1.9 kilometers of new road will be built, bringing the total length of the new section to approximately 3.8 kilometers.

The area currently experiences heavy traffic pressure, especially during peak holiday seasons with severe congestion. Once the new tunnel and road are completed, they will effectively alleviate traffic congestion in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen region and improve road safety. The project was initially budgeted at around €167 million, but due to factors such as rising material prices and labor costs during the COVID-19 pandemic, the total investment ultimately increased to €240 million.
