South Korea's HD Hyundai Heavy Industries wins $320 million FSRU order and $254 million LNG carrier order

en.Wedoany.com Reported - South Korean shipbuilder HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has announced a new vessel order to build a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) for an undisclosed Asian shipowner. The unit is scheduled for delivery before May 2029, with a contract value of 492.8 billion Korean won, approximately $320 million. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries did not disclose further details.

HD Hyundai Heavy to build FSRU, LNG carrier

According to shipbuilding industry sources, the actual owner of this FSRU order is BW LNG, a subsidiary of Singapore-based shipping group BW. The FSRU is expected to have a storage capacity between 170,000 and 174,000 cubic meters. Currently, BW LNG operates four FSRUs: the 137,000-cubic-meter BW Tatiana, the 162,500-cubic-meter BW Batangas, the 170,000-cubic-meter BW Integrity, and the 173,400-cubic-meter BW Magna.

Additionally, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has secured a construction contract for one liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, with the shipowner also from Oceania and undisclosed. The LNG carrier is scheduled for delivery before January 2029, with a contract value of 392.2 billion Korean won, approximately $254 million. LNG Prime has not yet been able to confirm the identity of the owner for this LNG carrier order.

Including the latest orders, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has secured contracts to build a total of 12 LNG carriers and one FSRU this year. These orders include two recent LNG carrier orders from European alternative asset management platform Hayfin, as well as eight LNG carriers ordered by Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) and KKR-backed Ocean Yield. These eight vessels will be chartered to U.S. LNG exporter Cheniere.
