Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 15, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport in Guangdong Province, South China, will launch the country’s first dedicated pet terminal in May 2025. This facility aims to streamline travel for domestic air passengers accompanied by pets, offering a comprehensive one-stop service experience.

Spanning 2,000 square meters, the pet terminal is evenly split between indoor and outdoor spaces and is situated opposite Gate 29 of Terminal 1. It features a vibrant, pet-friendly design and a clean environment. Currently in internal trial operations, the terminal will open to the public in May, providing services such as quarantine, booking, cargo transport, pet check-in, and foster care through a single online reservation system.

Travelers can book services via WeChat mini-programs like “Airport Pass” or “Baiyun pet terminal.” The terminal is expected to reduce pet travel processing time from seven days to two, enhancing efficiency. Dedicated check-in counters allow passengers and pets to check in together, with exclusive pre-boarding services. The terminal plans to expand pet flight options to additional domestic and international routes.

For pet owners needing temporary care, the terminal includes a pet hotel accommodating 17 to 30 pets. Themed rooms are designed with pet behavioral science in mind, incorporating vertical spaces for cats and social areas for dogs. Managed to high hospitality standards, the foster care service offers daily remote interaction videos for owners.

A passenger named Tang, who participated in the trial operations, shared on Monday: “The service will benefit air travelers like her—people who love to travel while keeping a pet.” She noted that the terminal simplifies quarantine procedures, reduces pet stress through a separate check-in process, and provides convenient foster care options for travelers.

A third-party survey reported that 25 percent of air travelers are pet owners, highlighting the demand for such services. The pet terminal addresses this growing need by offering tailored solutions for pet-friendly travel.

In a related development, China Railway Group Co introduced a pilot pet transport service on April 8, 2025, for select Beijing-Shanghai high-speed rail routes, featuring a pet consignment option on its online platform. The Guangzhou pet terminal sets a new standard for air travel, ensuring convenience and comfort for both pets and their owners.
