en.Wedoany.com Reported - North Ayrshire Council has delivered its 1,000th home built since the Strategic Housing Investment Plan was launched in 2014, marking a milestone in the region's housing construction.

This achievement coincides with the first tenants moving into 50 new homes developed by Ashleigh (Scotland) Limited on the former site of Garnock Academy in Kilbirnie. The community includes general needs houses, accessible bungalows, and homes designed specifically for wheelchair users.

North Ayrshire Council Leader Tony Gurney, while welcoming tenant Mandy Gorst to her new home at Moorpark Crescent, said reaching the 1,000th new council home is a truly remarkable success story for North Ayrshire. The council has a bold vision to address housing shortages and build modern, warm, and affordable homes. Gurney noted it is gratifying to see this vision become a reality on the historic Garnock Academy site, with homes designed for energy efficiency and adaptability to tenants' needs, ensuring support for local residents for decades to come. He wished Mandy many happy years in her new home.
Mandy, who received the keys to her new home, added that the property is fantastic and the most accessible home she has ever lived in, and she will call it home.
