Canada's Coractive Leverages Parent Company's Nearly $400 Million Investment to Accelerate Hollow-Core Fiber Development

As data centers and telecommunications networks transition to 800G and 1.6T optical transmission, Coractive is prioritizing the industrialization of hollow-core fiber (HCF) and polarization-maintaining fiber (PM) technologies.

This expansion relies on investments in the optical fiber supply chain by Coractive's parent company, Han's Laser. According to Coractive, Han's Laser has invested nearly $400 million through two recent initiatives: establishing a fiber preform and optical fiber production platform, and acquiring a 51% stake in LinFiber Technology, a developer of high-performance hollow-core fiber. Coractive stated that it will leverage the parent company's photonics supply chain resources while continuing to operate independently in Canada.

Coractive plans to expand its Quebec City production base, add new manufacturing equipment, and capitalize on Han's Laser's investments in synthetic quartz, fiber preforms, and supply chain capabilities. The company positions hollow-core fiber as a technological solution for optical communications, data center interconnection, cloud computing, high-performance computing, and high-power laser applications, while supplying specialty optical fibers to North America, Europe, and other international markets.

Lixian Wang, Vice President of R&D and Production at Coractive, stated that the company, established 27 years ago and rooted in Quebec, will continue to strictly comply with Canadian and international laws, regulatory requirements, compliance standards, and export controls, helping to enhance the global competitiveness of the St. Lawrence River "Optics-Photonics Valley."
