Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 21, E.ON Next is urging approximately 800 customers in York with Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) meters to upgrade to smart meters before the radio signal powering the technology is discontinued on June 30. The RTS system uses a radio signal to manage electricity meters, facilitating switches between peak and off-peak rates while supporting heating and hot water systems.

With the RTS service nearing the end of its operational life, set to terminate in ten weeks from April 21, E.ON Next is actively contacting affected customers to offer free smart meter upgrades. The company is allocating engineering resources to support this transition and ensure a seamless process.

Ramona Vlasiu, Chief Operating Officer at E.ON Next, stated: “It is vitally important for the nearly 800 customers in York with RTS meters to respond to us to ensure their meters are upgraded before the radio signal is switched off on 30 June. We have engineers available to upgrade your meter to ensure your supply is not affected. So regardless of your situation, we have a solution for you – don’t delay.”

Customers who upgrade will either remain on their current tariff or be moved to one better suited to their needs. Currently, 66% of E.ON Next’s customers have adopted smart meters, which help them monitor energy usage, manage budgets, and improve efficiency.

E.ON Next encourages customers unsure about whether the RTS signal discontinuation affects them to contact the company at 0800 183 1414 for clarification. This initiative aims to maintain reliable energy services for York residents while supporting the transition to more advanced metering technology.
