Wedoany.com Report-May 2, Cyclic Materials Inc., based in Toronto, Canada, has invested over $20 million to establish its first commercial rare earth element (REE) recycling facility in Mesa, Arizona. Set to begin operations in early 2026, the advanced facility will use the company’s proprietary MagCycle process to extract permanent magnets from end-of-life products, such as automotive components and electronic scrap, which were previously unrecovered.
Cyclic Materials selects a site in Arizona for its first commercial-scale plant
To support a sustainable supply chain, Cyclic Materials is building a feedstock network across the United States. The company has secured partnerships in the Southwest, a region generating approximately 155,000 tons of end-of-life components annually, and is expanding nationwide to ensure a reliable and scalable supply. The Mesa facility will create over 30 jobs, with recruitment starting in the second quarter of 2025, contributing to local economic growth and innovation in the recycling sector.
Ahmad Ghahreman, CEO and co-founder of Cyclic Materials, stated: “We are excited to begin commercial operations in the U.S. in early 2026. We have chosen the vibrant Southwest for our first U.S. and global site to be close to feedstock that will support our mission to address the global supply-demand imbalance for rare earth materials. By developing circular supply chains, we can reduce dependence on overseas sources and secure a more stable REE supply for the future.”
Arizona officials praised the investment. Governor Katie Hobbs said: “We are proud Cyclic Materials will establish its first U.S. facility right here in Arizona. This facility will create family-sustaining jobs and support thriving industries, all while advancing Arizona’s clean energy economy.” Senator Mark Kelly added: “This facility means more good-paying jobs in Mesa and a stronger supply chain that will power everything from electric vehicles to artificial intelligence. Arizona is leading the way on clean energy and innovation, and this investment will make sure we build more of what we need right here.”
The facility strengthens Mesa’s role in clean technology. Mayor Mark Freeman noted: “We’re proud to welcome Cyclic Materials to Mesa. Their investment brings jobs to our community and positions Mesa as a hub for clean tech innovation and sustainable manufacturing.” Sandra Watson, President and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority, remarked: “Cyclic Materials’ facility showcases Arizona’s global attractiveness for high-tech industries. With this state-of-the-art facility, Cyclic Materials will strengthen Arizona’s renewable energy ecosystem and further our leadership in emerging technologies.”
Founded in 2021, Cyclic Materials has raised $57 million, with support from investors like Microsoft, Hitachi Ventures, BMW iVentures, and Amazon’s Climate Pledge Fund. The company collaborates with industry leaders, including Solvay and Glencore, to recycle REE-containing magnets from electric vehicle motors, wind turbines, and data center waste, advancing sustainable manufacturing and circular supply chains.
