en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 8, 2026, Wizz Air announced a major expansion of its operations in Spain for the 2026/27 winter season, establishing two bases in the country for the first time and launching domestic routes.

The pan-European low-cost carrier's two new bases are located in Valencia (VLC) and Madrid (MAD) on Spain's eastern coast. Starting in November 2026, the Valencia base will operate five domestic routes: daily flights to Palma de Mallorca (PMI) and Bilbao (BIO), five weekly flights to Asturias (OVD), four weekly flights to Santiago de Compostela (SCQ), and two weekly flights to Santander (SDR). Additionally, Valencia will launch routes to Naples (NAP), Italy, and Brașov (GHV), Romania, with daily and three weekly frequencies respectively, while the existing daily Milan-Malpensa (MXP) route will increase to two daily flights.

The Madrid base will connect three domestic destinations (Asturias, Palma, Santiago) as well as Pisa (PSA), Italy. Routes from Madrid to London Luton (LTN) and Rome Fiumicino (FCO) will operate twice daily, while Milan-Malpensa (MXP) will increase to three daily flights. The Basque city of Bilbao will also launch direct flights to Málaga (AGP), Santiago, and Wrocław (WRO), Poland.

Wizz Air also plans to increase capacity to Spain from its other European bases. From October 26, 2026, a route will be launched connecting Almería (LEI) in southeastern Spain with the airline's base in Bucharest-Otopeni (OTP), Romania. On October 27, 2026, three new Spanish destinations will be added from London Luton: Málaga, Asturias-Oviedo (OVD), and Granada (GRX), with frequencies of four, three, and two weekly flights respectively.

This announcement coincides with the first anniversary of Wizz Air's inaugural route between the UK and Spain. With the new routes, 11 Spanish destinations will be accessible from UK airports. The new bases are expected to create approximately 150 jobs for pilots and cabin crew in Spain.
