en.Wedoany.com Reported - July 9, 2026 – RETN, a leading global independent network service provider, announced that 50% of its IP/MPLS traffic is now carried over 400G coherent pluggable (ZR/ZR+) infrastructure.

This milestone follows RETN’s large-scale deployment of 400G coherent optical modules across its pan-Eurasian backbone network last year, reflecting the growing adoption of coherent pluggable technology in real-world applications. That project introduced an IP-over-DWDM (IPoDWDM) architecture on key long-haul routes. The latest development marks the transition of this architecture from the deployment phase to production-scale traffic carriage on upgraded segments of RETN’s owned backbone infrastructure.

From Deployment to Network Reality

Last year, RETN completed one of the industry’s largest deployments of 400G coherent pluggable optical modules, enabling hundreds of modules to operate across backbone links spanning 300 to 950 kilometers. This deployment established a standardized "IPoDWDM" architecture designed to simplify network design, enhance scalability, and improve energy efficiency in core infrastructure.

Tony O'Sullivan, CEO of RETN, stated: "Coherent pluggable technology now supports IP/MPLS traffic at scale. This reflects a broad industry shift from strictly layered transport models toward a more integrated 'IPoDWDM' architecture in real-world backbone network environments."

Building a Native Coherent Backbone Network

The growing adoption of ZR+/coherent pluggable transmission technology continues to drive tighter integration between the IP and optical layers, enabling:

• Reduced network complexity through IP and optical integration

• Improved energy efficiency per bit transmitted

• More flexible scaling of high-capacity services

• Simplified backbone network architecture for long-haul routes

With all new backbone network routes adopting the coherent pluggable-based "IPoDWDM" architecture, RETN will continue to expand its coherent infrastructure across more backbone network segments, establishing this as the default design standard for the future.

About RETN

RETN is one of the fastest-growing independent network service providers across Eurasia. In 2026, it was awarded "Best Pan-European Operator of the Year" at the Carrier Community Global Awards, and in 2025, it received the "Best Pan-European Network Connectivity Provider" award at the Global Interconnection Awards.

RETN’s unique Eurasian connectivity solution is based on its self-built and operated DWDM and IP/MPLS network platforms, with extensive terrestrial coverage spanning Western Europe, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia, extending to the Chinese border and further into Southeast Asia.

RETN’s exceptional telecommunications network across Eurasia ensures stable and efficient connectivity for your business, backed by extremely short delivery lead times, top-tier system availability, and multi-layered redundancy mechanisms.
