en.Wedoany.com Reported - SK Telecom has signed a business agreement with Japan's SoftBank and the Center for Social Value Enhancement Studies (CSES) to jointly develop a methodology for objectively measuring the social value created by artificial intelligence and information and communication technology.

Artificial intelligence not only plays a role in enhancing productivity but also creates new social value in multiple areas, including strengthening social safety nets, promoting digital inclusion, and improving customer convenience. At the same time, there is a growing demand for methodologies to objectively measure the social benefits created by enterprises through AI technology.
The companies will leverage their respective accumulated capabilities in social value measurement to assess the social value generated by each enterprise through AI and ICT products and services, with the goal of jointly developing a standard measurement methodology that can be used globally. In addition, the three parties plan to promote the social value measurement methodology in global markets such as South Korea and Japan through case studies, joint report releases, and forums.
Since initiating cooperation in 2024, based on the achievements of the past two years, the three parties have further signed a business agreement to refine the social value measurement model. Going forward, each party will leverage its own business experience, data, and measurement know-how to concretize the social value measurement indicators for AI and ICT services, and advance the development of a standard measurement system applicable to various enterprises and industries.
SK Telecom has been measuring the social value created by its overall corporate activities since 2018. In particular, in areas such as caring for vulnerable groups, disaster response, and crime prevention—which strengthen social safety nets—the company has continuously identified the social value of AI ICT services that contribute to these efforts, and has enhanced the level of disclosure of results since 2021, even publishing the measurement formulas for specific indicators.
The Center for Social Value Enhancement Studies (CSES) is a non-profit foundation established by SK Group to support social value creation activities. The organization developed SK Group's "Double Bottom Line (DBL)" social value measurement system and supports research and academic activities related to social value.
Eom Jong-hwan, Head of SK Telecom's Sustainable Management Office, stated that a system is needed to objectively measure and explain the social benefits and issues to be addressed brought about by AI. Through this business agreement, the company will advance the development of a standard methodology for measuring social value tailored to the AI era.
