en.Wedoany.com Reported - Against the backdrop of the global energy transition, the strategic importance of critical minerals will be the core topic of the "Copper and Energy Transition" forum. This forum will be held on September 10 during the 8th International Mining Summit (AMERICA MINING SUMMIT), as part of EXPOMINA PERÚ 2026.

This conference will bring together experts from the mining, energy, and technology sectors to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the industry amid growing demand for decarbonization and critical metals. The forum will be held in the Silver Hall of the Jockey Exhibition Center, moderated by Suamy Pérez, National Energy Advisor at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). She will open the event and deliver the keynote speech, "Geopolitics of Critical Minerals in the Era of Energy Transition." This speech will explore the energy transition as a challenge, opportunity, and process of structural change, analyzing the new geopolitical landscape accompanying this shift, as well as Peru's strategic role in the context of intensifying global competition for critical minerals.

The forum also features a thematic debate, "Challenges and Demands of the Mining Sector in the Face of the Energy Transition," which will bring together representatives from the industry, the public sector, and international organizations. Panelists include: José Estela, Director of Energy Projects at Compañía Minera Poderosa; Pedro Gamio, former Vice Minister of Energy; Horacio Meza, Corporate Sustainability Manager at Sierra Sun Group; and Mariluz Álvarez, Clean Energy Officer at the British Embassy in Lima. The experts will discuss topics related to operational challenges, vulnerabilities, technological needs, regulatory constraints, and strategic opportunities for the mining sector to adopt the energy transition.

The agenda also includes the presentation "Before the Technological Transition: Strategic Decisions for the Energy Transition in Mining," where Suamy Pérez will elaborate on the importance of data management, operational efficiency, strategic analysis, energy vulnerability assessment, and technology integration as starting points for the transformation of Peru's mining sector. The forum will conclude with a presentation by the Operations Director of the British company VORCAN (UK), who will deliver a speech titled "From Data to Decarbonization: The Role of Artificial Intelligence in the Energy Transition of Mining." This presentation will showcase the application of this technology, data integration, modeling, predictive analysis, and support for energy decision-making to drive change in the mining sector.
