en.Wedoany.com Reported - Australian energy retailer AGL has partnered with the Point Pearce Aboriginal community in the Narungga region of the Yorke Peninsula, South Australia, to fund and install 48 rooftop solar and battery systems, aiming to reduce electricity costs for eligible households and provide long-term, reliable renewable energy infrastructure for the community.

These systems were deployed by Twilight Energy, a South Australian solar and battery company. Depending on the participating household, the rooftop solar capacity ranges from 6 kW to 7 kW, paired with a 10 kWh Sigenergy battery energy storage system. Community member Raymond Wanganeen stated that the community liaison played a key role in project delivery and was critical to its success. Uncle Eddie Newchurch, a board member of the Point Pearce Aboriginal Corporation (PPAC), noted that the project is part of rectifying past wrongs and marks a turning point for Aboriginal families to access clean, reliable, and affordable energy. Newchurch said community members will be able to enjoy the benefits of renewable energy rather than merely watching from the sidelines without being able to participate; the project's success is attributed to grassroots and genuine community engagement, as well as a community-centered approach. Suzanne Falvi, Executive General Manager of Corporate Affairs and Reconciliation Action Plan Sponsorship at AGL, stated that all eligible households can participate regardless of which energy retailer they use, with annual electricity savings of approximately AUD 1,000 to 2,000.

AGL provided financial support for the project and delivered it in collaboration with PPAC, the South Australian Department for Energy and Mining, the South Australian Housing Trust, and the Aboriginal Lands Trust. AGL is exploring ways to involve local community members in future maintenance, monitoring, and related support roles, and is offering training and capacity development opportunities.
