en.Wedoany.com Reported - According to data released by Brazil's Ministry of Economy (Secex), exports of scrap steel used for steel production fell slightly by 1.6% year-on-year in June, but cumulative exports in the first half of the year still maintained a growth trend.

In June, total scrap steel exports reached 82,873 tons, close to the 84,207 tons recorded in the same period of 2025, but higher than the 76,609 tons in May. From January to June this year, total exports amounted to 473,211 tons, an increase of 13.3% compared to 417,709 tons in the same period of 2025.

Clineu Alvarenga, president of the National Recycling Association (Inesfa), an industry organization representing over 5,000 recycling companies, stated that against the backdrop of a persistently weak domestic market, exporting surplus scrap steel that cannot be absorbed domestically remains a survival option for recycling companies.

Alvarenga pointed out that Brazilian steel companies face difficulties in domestic steel sales, with signs of economic contraction, leading steelmakers to reduce scrap steel purchases. Rebar sales have declined, and demand for new steel is weak. Inesfa expects this situation to persist for some time.
