Favorite

Wedoany.com Report-May 8, BASF SE, based in Ludwigshafen, Germany, has entered into a Cooperation Agreement with Plug Power Inc., headquartered in Latham, New York, to integrate BASF’s advanced DeOxo catalysts into Plug Power’s hydrogen liquefaction plants worldwide. This partnership, announced in 2025, aims to enhance the reliability and cost efficiency of hydrogen production facilities.

BASF’s DeOxo catalysts, including the Purivate Pd15 product, deliver high performance at low temperatures, reducing reliance on costly precious metals. These catalysts have been fully qualified for use in Plug Power’s hydrogen liquefaction plants, positioning BASF as a preferred supplier. Additionally, Plug Power has approved BASF’s Sorbead Air, an aluminosilicate gel adsorbent, for energy-efficient hydrogen dehydration in these plants.

The collaboration focuses on hydrogen liquefaction plants with capacities of 30, 60, and 90 tons per day. BASF’s catalysts and adsorbents underwent a thorough technical qualification process, supported by the company’s extensive operational experience, confirming their suitability for large-scale hydrogen purification.

Detlef Ruff, Senior Vice President of Chemical Catalysts and Adsorbents at BASF, stated: “BASF has a rich history in hydrogen purification and has built a robust portfolio that features large-scale hydrogen purification units in our own facilities. We are proud to have also earned the approval of other leading players in the green hydrogen sector.” This partnership strengthens BASF’s position in the hydrogen market.

Daniel Kennedy, Vice President of Process Technology at Plug Power, said: “Plug Power has confidence in BASF’s extensive experience and expertise in hydrogen purification. We believe this collaboration will provide our clients with proven and reliable end-to-end solutions that enhance the economic viability of liquid hydrogen plants.” The agreement supports Plug Power’s goal of delivering efficient hydrogen solutions.

By combining BASF’s advanced catalyst and adsorbent technologies with Plug Power’s hydrogen liquefaction expertise, the collaboration aims to improve the performance and affordability of hydrogen plants globally. This initiative aligns with the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions, particularly in the green hydrogen sector, and fosters innovation in hydrogen production infrastructure.
