en.Wedoany.com Reported - July 13, 2026, Siemens Limited has secured an order worth INR 2.63 billion from Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) to provide advanced overhead railway electrification systems for the Rishikesh–Karnaprayag railway project. The project covers approximately 102.5 track kilometers and aims to provide reliable all-weather railway connectivity along the strategically significant Char Dham corridor.
The Rishikesh–Karnaprayag railway line is a key component of the Char Dham connectivity corridor. The project plans to build safer and more reliable railway services in the Himalayan terrain to improve transportation links in Uttarakhand. This corridor aims to promote regional economic growth and tourism while reducing travel barriers caused by complex terrain and high-altitude climate conditions.
The order covers the deployment of advanced Rigid Overhead Catenary Systems (ROCS) and Flexible Overhead Catenary Systems (FOCS) to adapt to the challenging terrain and operational requirements of complex railway infrastructure. Specific electrification work includes approximately 102.5 track kilometers of railway lines, tunnels, bridges, open sections, and railway yard electrification along with related auxiliary facilities. The combination of the two overhead catenary systems ensures efficient power supply under different railway environments, guaranteeing reliable operation of the line under demanding geographical conditions.
Rajeev Joisar, CEO of Mobility Business at Siemens Limited, stated that the collaboration with RVNL on this project in Uttarakhand marks a significant step toward sustainable and reliable connectivity in one of India's most challenging terrains. This order further strengthens Siemens' position in advanced railway electrification technology and builds on its track record of successfully delivering rigid overhead catenary systems for iconic railway projects across the country.
