en.Wedoany.com Reported - Nokia and Taiwan Mobile signed a 5G network expansion agreement on July 14, deploying the AirScale portfolio, next-generation baseband and radio solutions, and integrating AI-driven network management software into the existing mobile network to expand 5G capacity, enhance uplink performance, and improve spectrum efficiency. This construction will focus on upgrading radio access, baseband processing, network automation, and energy management systems, enabling the existing network to support the growing traffic from AI applications.

Under the agreement, Nokia will enhance Taiwan Mobile's existing network infrastructure with advanced radio equipment and next-generation baseband solutions. The new equipment will be used to increase network throughput and uplink transmission capacity, adapting to new traffic patterns brought by AI applications. As on-device AI services increase, the network needs to handle more continuous uploads, real-time interactions, and multi-device connections. This expansion will add wireless capacity and baseband processing power for related services, while supporting the subsequent introduction of 5G features such as network slicing and RedCap.

Network software development will proceed in parallel. Nokia will deploy predictive hardware analysis services and the MantaRay SON self-organizing network system, using AI algorithms to analyze network operating status, predict hardware risks, and automatically adjust network parameters. Once operational, these systems can optimize network performance in real time, and through traffic steering and self-healing functions, adjust resource allocation and maintain service continuity when network conditions change, reducing the burden of manual operations and fault handling.

This expansion also includes an upgrade to the energy management system. Nokia will integrate energy-efficient hardware with AI-driven energy management algorithms into the mobile network, adjusting equipment operating status based on traffic changes in different areas and time periods, implementing traffic-aware optimization and proactive energy savings. Taiwan Mobile plans to reduce network power consumption through this deployment, improving overall operational efficiency while increasing 5G capacity.

The scope of this cooperation covers radio equipment, baseband facilities, network management software, and energy-saving systems, with the goal of upgrading Taiwan Mobile's existing 5G network into a mobile communication infrastructure with higher automation, greater capacity, and dynamic adjustment capabilities. Both parties have not yet disclosed the number of base stations involved in this network expansion, specific deployment areas, contract value, or completion timeline.
