en.Wedoany.com Reported - Aberdeen City Council is seeking contractors for a junction improvement project on the B999 road and Shielhill Road, aimed at enhancing road safety and maintaining traffic capacity.

The works involve modifications to the junction itself, including eliminating a sharp bend on the B999 road and widening the verges on Shielhill Road. The design significantly improves road safety while maintaining the junction's traffic capacity. The planned works will enhance road safety and visibility at the junction while preserving its traffic capacity for road users.
Specific measures for the junction improvement include: realigning over 300 meters of the B999 road by introducing gentle curves on the east side of the current B999 road to eliminate the sharp bend north of the junction; reconfiguring the B999 road and Shielhill Road junction; adding a culvert extension east of the existing Burn of Mundurno culvert to accommodate the realigned carriageway; and widening the verges on the B999 road to improve visibility.
Road visibility improvements involve the following works: removing dry stone walls within the double bend area on the north side of Shielhill Road; widening the verges within the double bend area on the north side of Shielhill Road; and trimming the slopes of fields within the double bend area on the north side of Shielhill Road.
Aberdeen City Council co-leader Councillor Ian Yuill stated that improving the B999 road and Shielhill Road junction will make a tangible difference for drivers and local residents using the road. Finance and Resources Committee convener Councillor Alex McLellan noted that this is a significant step for the project and looks forward to the main contractor being appointed and commencing work in the coming months, emphasizing the importance of these junction improvements for residents and confirming that the project is being progressed to complete the enhancements.
