en.Wedoany.com Reported - India's Prime Minister will unveil the country's first hydrogen-powered train on July 17, which will operate between Jind and Sonipat. Designed, engineered, and integrated domestically using indigenous technology, this train marks a significant step for Indian Railways toward clean and sustainable mobility. It is also one of the longest and most powerful hydrogen-powered trains in the world.

The train is powered by hydrogen fuel cell technology, which converts hydrogen into electricity to propel the train forward, producing only water vapor as a byproduct and achieving zero carbon emissions. With this, India joins an elite group of countries operating hydrogen-powered trains, reflecting its growing capabilities in advanced railway engineering.

Compared to diesel trains, hydrogen-powered trains eliminate exhaust emissions, reduce dependence on fossil fuels and their imports, and operate with significantly lower noise levels. Unlike conventional electric trains that rely on overhead catenary power supply, this train generates electricity from onboard hydrogen fuel cells, eliminating the need for electrification infrastructure along the route. The use of green hydrogen also reduces reliance on coal-fired thermal power plants, supporting India's transition to sustainable transportation.

This hydrogen-powered train features a 10-car configuration, making it one of the longest hydrogen-powered passenger trains developed to date. Equipped with a 3,200-horsepower propulsion system, it is also one of the most powerful hydrogen-powered train sets in operation.
