en.Wedoany.com Reported - ABB has secured a contract from ENGIE Australia to modernize the distributed control system at the Pelican Point Power Station in South Australia. The plant, a 532 MW combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) facility equipped with two gas turbines and one steam turbine, is located approximately 20 kilometers northwest of Adelaide's city center and supplies about 50% of South Australia's annual thermal power generation.

Under the contract, ABB will upgrade the existing Advant controllers for one gas turbine and the steam turbine, replacing them with ABB's AC 800M controllers. This upgrade aims to enhance cybersecurity performance and optimize real-time monitoring capabilities while retaining all existing on-site functions. Tanvir Momin, DCS engineer at the plant, stated that the Pelican Point Power Station plays a critical role in supporting South Australia's energy supply, and this modernization reflects its commitment to maintaining robust operational performance and preparing for future demands.

This contract builds on the existing service relationship at Pelican Point and is executed under a long-term maintenance agreement. Since 2019, ABB has been providing maintenance and technical support for the plant and has been involved in work on key on-site systems. Aaron Trueman, Vice President of ABB's Energy Industries division in Australia, noted that control system modernization is essential for maintaining stable and reliable power supply, and ABB is supporting the plant in enhancing performance, improving efficiency, and strengthening long-term resilience through its expertise and close collaboration.
