en.Wedoany.com Reported - After months of renovation, Cologne Bonn Airport has announced the official opening of its fully modernized security checkpoints. Passengers can now use a set of 11 security lanes equipped with modern CT technology, making Cologne Bonn the first major airport in Germany to be fully equipped with this technology.

The renovation, which cost approximately €25 million, is a core component of the airport's "Next Chapter" modernization plan, which will gradually modernize the terminal buildings. The airport stated that the new security checkpoints are among the most modern facilities in Europe, balancing high security standards with passenger convenience while enhancing the airport's competitiveness. This investment represents a clear commitment to growth, quality, and customer satisfaction.
With the installation of new CT scanners, passengers no longer need to remove electronic devices and liquids from their hand luggage. The liquid carry-on restriction has now been increased to two liters per container. The new system is also designed to achieve faster processing speeds. The technological modernization is complemented by new lighting and sound design, a new guidance system, and a specially designed family lane (called the "Kids Lane"), which allows children to place their luggage on the conveyor belt and retrieve it themselves.
The airport stated that this renovation sets a new standard nationwide for Cologne Bonn Airport, highlighting its role as a modern innovation leader. For the city of Cologne and the entire region, the new security checkpoints represent a key development that will long-term solidify its position as a business and tourism hub. The largest shareholder also expressed pride in the airport's continued investment in the future, securing important jobs, and significantly reducing travel stress for citizens starting today.
