en.Wedoany.com Reported - India's data center sector added 258 MW IT of new capacity in the first half of 2026 (January to June), a 59% increase compared to 162 MW IT in the same period of 2025. According to a report released by real estate consultancy Savills India, this growth has pushed the country's total operational data center stock to 1.8 GW IT. The report projects that India's total data center capacity will nearly quadruple by 2030, exceeding 7 GW IT, highlighting the country's strategic position in the global digital infrastructure landscape.

Among the existing operational stock, hyperscale cloud service providers account for 36%, enterprise-grade facilities for 8%, and edge data centers for 1%. The remaining 55% consists of hybrid facilities serving both hyperscale cloud service providers and enterprises. Srihari Srinivasan, Director and Head of Data Center Services at Savills India, stated that the continuous influx of existing operators, as well as new capital and developers, is driving market growth. Although enterprise cloud migration has led to relatively moderate demand in the broader colocation market, demand from hyperscale cloud service providers and large enterprises remains strong and is expected to continue supporting market expansion. The consultancy also anticipates emerging demand from Neo-Cloud service providers, who are actively evaluating India as a strategic destination due to factors including cost advantages, location independence, and the expanding infrastructure ecosystem.
Srinivasan added that despite a stable market outlook, securing power and suitable land for data center development remains a severe challenge across all key data center markets in India. This is forcing hyperscale cloud service providers and data center operators to explore new clusters for future expansion, often requiring support from local governments.
