Kazakhstan's KMG and Eni Produce First Power from 120 MW Gas Power Plant
en.Wedoany.com Reported - KazMunayGas (KMG), Kazakhstan's national oil and gas company, and Italy's Eni S.p.A. have produced the first industrial power from a 120 MW gas power plant under construction in the city of Zhanaozen. This marks a significant phase in the implementation of a joint project to build a hybrid power station with a total capacity of 247 MW.

The project is being advanced under KMG's low-carbon development plan, aiming to integrate solar (50 MW), gas (120 MW), and wind (77 MW) power generation into a unified energy complex. In September 2025, KMG and Eni commissioned a solar power plant, which has generated approximately 62 million kWh of electricity to date, demonstrating the efficiency of solar power in the region.

The gas power plant is equipped with six gas piston units manufactured by Wartsila, and a 110 kV substation has been built, with commissioning work still ongoing. Over 1,000 workers were mobilized during construction, and the facility is scheduled to be commissioned in the third quarter of this year. Construction of the wind power plant is also underway. Once the new complex is operational, it will enable KMG to stably supply power to its subsidiaries in the region and create up to 70 new jobs.
