en.Wedoany.com Reported - Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has launched the Afungi Shuttle Service to support growing economic activities in northern Mozambique. The service will facilitate the transportation of construction materials, machinery, industrial equipment, spare parts, and other cargo required for the development of the Afungi liquefied natural gas (LNG) project. MSC stated that the service provides access to Afungi by connecting major trade routes across Europe, the Mediterranean, the Americas, Asia, the Middle East, and Southern Africa, leveraging its extensive origin coverage and local presence in Mozambique.

In January this year, TotalEnergies and its partners restarted the Mozambique LNG project with an annual capacity of 12.8 million tons. The project had been suspended for five years due to attacks. In addition to TotalEnergies, project partners include Japan's Mitsui, Mozambique's ENH, Thailand's PTT, and Indian companies ONGC, Bharat Petroleum, and Oil India. The total project value is approximately $20.5 billion.

The EPC contractor for the Mozambique LNG project is CCS JV, a joint venture comprising Saipem, McDermott, and Chiyoda. TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanne stated in May that the project is 42% complete, with over 6,000 people working on the project in Cabo Delgado Province. He noted that the goal and timeline are to achieve first LNG production from the initial train by 2029.
