en.Wedoany.com Reported - Rolls-Royce secured its first sales order for the Trent 1000 XE engine at this year's Farnborough Air Show, with Somon Air selecting the engine to power its future Boeing 787 fleet.
The airline committed to purchasing four Boeing 787-9s in Washington last November, but these aircraft have not yet been added to Boeing's backlog. Rolls-Royce stated that Somon Air will purchase four Trent 1000 XE engines for two Boeing 787s.
The order, finalized on July 21, is the second commitment for the Trent 1000 series engine that Rolls-Royce has secured this year. In April, the company regained an order from LATAM Airlines. Ewen McDonald, Chief Customer Officer at Rolls-Royce, described Somon Air's commitment as "a further vote of confidence in the Trent 1000 XE from the market." He noted that through ongoing transformation improvements, the engine's on-wing time can be extended by up to three times, while maintenance requirements are reduced and fleet planning becomes more predictable.
The core upgrade of the Trent 1000 XE lies in the improved high-pressure turbine. Rolls-Royce stated that the company is focused on enhancing the on-wing time performance across the entire Trent engine series.
