en.Wedoany.com Reported - BermudAir has confirmed an order for 10 Airbus A220-300 aircraft to expand its route network across the Caribbean, Central America, and North America. The order, placed by affiliate company Odyssey in March, was disclosed at the Farnborough Airshow on July 22, marking the group's first direct aircraft purchase from Airbus. Deliveries are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2027.

The airline currently operates two Embraer 175 and two E190 aircraft. According to CAPA fleet database data, during the summer of 2026, the airline offered approximately 131,300 two-way seats, connecting 12 airport pairs. OAG flight schedule analyzer data shows that its largest market is the Bermuda-Boston route (about 31,700 seats), followed by Bermuda-Toronto (about 26,700 seats), Bermuda-New York Westchester County (nearly 14,800 seats), and Bermuda-New York Newark (about 12,300 seats).

The three-year-old airline is expanding beyond its primarily Bermuda-to-North American gateway route network. The winter 2026-27 flight schedule adds flights to Caribbean destinations including Belize, Turks and Caicos Islands, and Guatemala City, along with increased flights to Anguilla. These new routes will initially be operated by the E190.

With a maximum range of 3,600 nautical miles, the A220-300 offers greater range and capacity than the current Embraer fleet, potentially enabling the airline to enter new markets while continuing to serve relatively thin routes. Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President of Commercial Aircraft Sales at Airbus, stated that this agreement introduces the A220 to the unique operating environment of the Atlantic and Caribbean regions, demonstrating how its efficiency can support customized business models.

The A220 model is increasingly being used to develop non-hub markets. OAG data shows that in 2025, 29 airlines deployed the model across 1,383 airport pairs, providing 72.5 million seats on over 530,000 flights. Delta Air Lines is the largest operator by capacity, with over 10.9 million seats; Breeze Airways in the U.S. offered nearly 7.8 million seats across more than 260 airport pairs. As of July 2026, Breeze Airways operates 283 A220 non-stop routes, facing direct competition on only three of them.
