Wedoany.com Report-May 27, The Municipal Council of Sakar in Senegal has recently allocated 300 hectares (741 acres) of land to a unit of the Swedish firm Jord AB for the development of a large-scale biofuel project. This land, located between the villages of Dassilame and Taiba-Bodiancounda in the Sedhiou region of southern Senegal, has been unused for over 20 years. Jord AB plans to use this land to produce approximately 50,000 tonnes of solid biofuel annually. This initiative aims to support Senegal's goal of achieving 40% renewable energy by 2030.

Jord's CEO Peder Dagsánth meets with residents in the village of Diassilame in Senegal.

The project is expected to contribute significantly to the country's renewable energy targets by providing a steady source of biofuel, which can be used to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Additionally, the project is anticipated to address several socio-economic challenges in the region. These include working in rice fields without proper equipment, poor road conditions, and limited support for local production. By facilitating these challenges, the project hopes to alleviate the burden on mothers, create employment opportunities for the local youth, and foster the overall development of the municipality.

Souaibou Cisse, the Municipality Project Coordinator, expressed the significance of the project, stating, "We have made significant sacrifices to make this land available. We believe in this initiative, and we hope the project will give back to the community, allowing our municipality to grow and rank among the best in the region in the near future." Her words highlight the deep-rooted desire of the community to benefit from this project, ensuring a brighter future for Sakar and its residents.
