en.Wedoany.com Reported - Siemens has inaugurated its new electrification and automation plant in Egypt, an investment that marks the company's strategic commitment to this key technology and will strengthen its industrial footprint in one of the region's fastest-growing markets. Egypt's Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Industry, Khaled Hashem, and senior executives from Siemens AG attended the inauguration event.
The plant will focus on advancing the localized production of critical energy technologies, covering switchgear, substation control and monitoring systems, protection systems, and embedded cybersecurity solutions, to align with Egypt's accelerating energy transition and expanding infrastructure needs.
Egypt has set a renewable energy target of achieving 45% green energy by 2028. The aforementioned product portfolio is designed to support this goal, serving Egypt's transmission and distribution networks and its rapidly growing renewable energy sector. The technologies embed cybersecurity directly into substation control systems to comply with the highest international standards for protecting critical energy infrastructure.
The plant directly aligns with Egypt's National Industrial Strategy (2024–2030), which prioritizes the localization of the electrical and engineering industries, with goals including increasing the industrial sector's contribution to GDP. In September 2024, Siemens signed a memorandum of understanding with the Industrial Development Authority to advance the local manufacturing of electrical products in Egypt. Through local production, Siemens will strengthen the local supply chain and support Egyptian engineering, procurement, and construction companies in delivering energy and infrastructure projects in Egypt, North Africa, and the broader African continent.
The plant houses the Siemens Power Academy, a systematic training program for customers and employees. The academy features dedicated training rooms and educational spaces, where trainees can learn in an environment close to production lines and technology demonstrations. Within its first year of operation, the academy plans to equip professionals with the skills needed to design, operate, and maintain advanced energy infrastructure, building on Siemens' solid foundation of investing in various vocational training programs in Egypt.
The academy is located adjacent to the plant's workshop floor and the Customer Experience Center. This center enables customers, partners, and stakeholders to experience Siemens' latest digital twin and IoT-based energy management and grid optimization solutions, technologies already adopted in Egypt's energy and infrastructure sectors.
With 125 years of presence in Egypt, Siemens continues to deliver key technologies in the country, including high-speed rail networks and grid modernization projects, and has established the Middle East's first Industry 4.0 innovation center in the New Administrative Capital. The new plant shifts the partnership from delivering technology to Egypt to manufacturing technology in Egypt, creating local value, nurturing local expertise, and supporting Egypt's goal of becoming an advanced regional industrial hub.
