Scottish Government selects Planet Labs for AI-based agricultural monitoring

The contract was secured through Planet's reseller Computacenter. Planet's data archive and AI analytics capabilities will help Scotland advance its agricultural transformation, providing decision-making support for sustainable food production, enhanced biodiversity, and reduced carbon emissions. Jo Gray, Programme Director of the Agricultural Reform Programme, stated that high-frequency satellite data and advanced analytics enable the government to monitor Scotland's changing landscape on a near-continuous basis. Through 2026, both parties will collaborate to explore how these capabilities can help the Scottish Government achieve its environmental and climate goals through more objective, continuous monitoring systems, while tracking ecological progress and providing evidence to support future agricultural reform initiatives.

Diego Vanelli, Planet's Government Sales Director for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, stated that the Scottish Government has set targets for sustainable agricultural transformation, and Planet has proven to be a foundational data provider for numerous national institutions, including Scotland. This collaboration will leverage automated, AI-driven monitoring approaches to support large-scale ecological transformation with technical fidelity.

The partnership with the Scottish Government further expands Planet's customer base in the UK region. The company has previously engaged in ongoing collaborations with the Welsh Government and England's Rural Payments Agency.
