en.Wedoany.com Reported - Philippine renewable energy developer Alternergy Holdings Corporation has commenced power generation at its 128MW Tanay Wind Power Project, becoming the first wind project under the Department of Energy's Green Energy Auction Program Phase 2 (GEAP II) to deliver electricity to the Luzon grid. The project's wind turbines are now transmitting power through a newly commissioned 6-hectare substation, which is connected to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines' (NGCP) 500kV transmission backbone.

The Tanay Wind Power Project was awarded under GEAP II in July 2023 and is Alternergy's largest wind development in the Luzon region to date. Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate approximately 283.5 GWh of renewable electricity annually, sufficient to meet the power needs of about 118,125 households and avoid approximately 197,780 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

Alternergy President Gerry Magbanua stated that the project's first power generation marks the culmination of years of work involving employees, contractors, financing partners, government agencies, local governments, and host communities. The company noted that the project has created employment opportunities and economic benefits for its host communities during development and construction.

The Tanay Wind Power Project is one of two wind assets supported by A Brown Company Inc.'s P2.3b investment in Alternergy's wind projects.
