en.Wedoany.com Reported - Spanish energy company Reolum has confirmed that Siemens Energy will supply the steam turbine and generator for the under-construction La Robla Green biomass power plant. This contract marks a key step in the project's financing closure process and confirms the addition of a new equipment supplier.
La Robla Green is located in the province of León, Spain. The first phase involves an investment of approximately €950 million, included within a €1.5 billion industrial plan to be implemented in La Robla and Villadangos, both in the province of León. At peak construction, over 1,600 jobs are expected, and the plant is scheduled to begin supplying synthetic fuels in 2029.
Under the contract, Siemens Energy will supply an SST-800 single-casing reheat steam turbine and an SGen5-100A-2P 086-23 M07 generator, a system specifically designed for direct coupling of the turbine and generator in industrial processes.
Representatives from both companies have visited Siemens Energy's plant in Germany to review the final details of equipment manufacturing, supply schedules, and integration with the plant, in order to coordinate all workstreams before the final installation of components.
Yann Dumont, CEO and Vice President of Reolum, stated that this contract is a significant milestone in the development of La Robla Green and the definition of its main equipment. Bringing in Siemens Energy allows the project to support the most critical facilities of the biomass cogeneration plant alongside a technology partner. The visit to the German plant helps strengthen technical coordination and define the next-stage objectives for the correct integration of the equipment within the industrial complex.
La Robla Green's timeline aligns with Spain's transposition of the EU REDIII Directive into national law. The directive, approved by the EU in November 2023, requires clean energy to account for 42.5% of total EU consumption by 2030. La Robla Green plans to begin distributing its products in 2029, one year ahead of this target.
Reolum was founded in 2019 by Fernando Muñoz and Yann Dumont, bringing together a team of over 40 professionals in energy, biomass, sustainability, and finance. Its flagship product is green e-methanol (e-metanol verde), which can be used as marine fuel or in the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), as well as a feedstock for various processes in the chemical industry.
According to the company, its projects use biogenic carbon dioxide to produce green e-methanol with an extremely low carbon footprint, potentially even achieving negative emissions at the source. The projects adopt a Project Finance structure, facilitating the participation of mid-sized companies in capital-intensive hydrogen projects.
