CK Line, a South Korean regional container shipping company, has returned to China's shipbuilding market by signing a contract with CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. for the construction of two 6,400 TEU container vessels, with an option for two additional ships. The financial terms and delivery dates of the contract have not yet been disclosed.

The newbuildings are designed and developed by the CSSC 708 Research Institute, with each vessel equipped with approximately 1,150 reefer container plug points to accommodate the growing demand for refrigerated cargo transportation.

The new order follows Huangpu Wenchong's delivery of two 2,700 TEU container ships to CK Line in 2025, marking a repeat order from the same client for the Guangzhou-based shipyard and further consolidating its position in the medium-sized container ship segment.

Founded in 1962 and headquartered in Seoul, CK Line is one of South Korea's leading regional container carriers, with routes connecting Korea to China, Japan, Southeast Asia, and Russia. The company currently operates more than 30 container ships with individual capacities ranging from approximately 500 TEU to 2,700 TEU, in addition to several bulk carriers. Measured against the vessels in this latest contract, the 6,400 TEU newbuildings will become the largest ships CK Line has ever ordered and will significantly expand its capacity on regional routes.
