en.Wedoany.com Reported - VietJet plans to launch two routes from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Cebu, Philippines, in November, expanding its Philippine network from one to three routes. Air travel demand between Vietnam and the Philippines is continuing to grow.

The new routes are scheduled to begin operations on November 10, with three weekly flights each on the Hanoi–Cebu and Ho Chi Minh City–Cebu routes, all operated with Airbus A321 aircraft. VietJet had previously announced plans to launch the Ho Chi Minh City–Cebu route in December with five weekly round-trip flights.

OAG flight schedule analysis data shows that on the Hanoi–Cebu route, VietJet will compete directly with Vietnam Airlines, while Cebu Pacific operates on the Cebu–Ho Chi Minh City route.

VietJet entered the Philippine market in late 2025 with the Ho Chi Minh City–Manila route, which offered approximately 67,700 two-way seats during the 2026 summer peak season. The company stated in June that Cebu's status as a hub in the economic, tourism, and aviation sectors makes it an attractive addition to its route network; it also highlighted the potential of connecting Philippine passengers via Ho Chi Minh City to international markets including Australia, China, India, Japan, and South Korea.

Sabre market intelligence data analysis shows that opportunities beyond Manila are growing. Two-way point-to-point passenger traffic between Vietnam and the Philippines reached approximately 1.06 million in 2025, up 41.1% from around 750,000 in 2024.

Manila remains the primary destination on the Philippine side, with passenger traffic of approximately 799,000; traffic on the Cebu corridor reached around 87,500, up approximately 189% year-on-year. By route, Ho Chi Minh City–Cebu saw nearly 56,000 two-way passengers in 2025, up 287% from approximately 14,500 the previous year; Hanoi–Cebu passenger traffic grew 79% year-on-year to approximately 23,600. These figures include both direct and connecting passengers.

In the broader market, Hanoi–Manila was the largest city pair between Vietnam and the Philippines in 2025, with approximately 321,000 passengers over the year, up 38.6% year-on-year; Ho Chi Minh City–Manila recorded approximately 294,000 passengers, up 3.8%; and Da Nang–Manila surpassed 153,000 passengers, nearly doubling from the previous year.

In response to growing traffic, airlines continue to expand scheduled direct capacity between Vietnam and the Philippines. OAG data shows that the market offers approximately 1.05 million two-way seats in summer 2026, up 30.9% from approximately 804,000 in summer 2025.

Alongside its Philippine expansion, VietJet posted growth in both revenue and passenger traffic in the first half of 2026. Consolidated revenue reached VND 51.536 trillion (USD 1.96 billion), up 44% year-on-year; consolidated after-tax profit stood at VND 1.372 trillion. During the period, the company operated 72,000 flights, carried over 13.4 million passengers, and accumulated cargo volume of nearly 41,000 tons.

VietJet stated that its route network currently comprises 213 routes, of which 167 are international. In the first half of this year, the company announced new routes between Vietnam and China, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, and the Czech Republic. Additionally, VietJet has taken preliminary regulatory steps to establish an airline in Australia, aiming to compete with existing major carriers on domestic routes.
