en.Wedoany.com Reported - Swedish mining company Gruvaktiebolaget Viscaria has commissioned Sandvik to provide an underground automated fleet and related services for its copper mine restart project in Kiruna, Sweden.

The agreement covers four DL432i deep hole drilling rigs and four Toro LH621i loaders, which will operate on the AutoMine Multi-Lite platform with integrated fleet management. The contract also includes rock drilling tools and a comprehensive service agreement, for which Sandvik will establish a dedicated on-site service organization to support fleet operations.

The Viscaria copper mine was acquired by Gruvaktiebolaget Viscaria in 2019. The mine was previously in operation from 1982 to 1997 before closing due to a decline in global copper prices. As planned, the mine is scheduled to resume production in 2028, reach full capacity in 2029, and is expected to produce 26,000 tonnes of copper annually once fully operational.

Patrick Murphy, President of Sandvik Mining, stated that successful mining projects are built on strong partnerships before the first tonne of ore is extracted, and the company has been working with the Viscaria team since 2020. He believes Viscaria is a forward-looking project where early collaboration creates long-term value, and looks forward to providing equipment, rock drilling tools, and automation solutions, complemented by lifecycle services, to help Viscaria unlock the untapped potential of this historic mine.

The order was confirmed in the third quarter of 2026, with equipment deliveries scheduled to begin in January 2027 and continue through August 2027.

In July 2026, Sandvik also received an order from Mexican mining contractor Constructora Minera Villagómez (CoMinVi), valued at approximately SEK 340 million (USD 35.2 million), for the supply of underground mining equipment. Founded in 1997, CoMinVi plans to deploy this equipment across its various contract sites in Mexico.
