Brazil's ANP Approves Shell's Gato do Mato Development Plan

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Brazil's National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) on Friday (7th) approved the development plan for the shared Gato do Mato reservoir operated by Shell. The plan was approved unanimously. In his voting opinion, rapporteur and Director Daniel Maia required that the plan be revised by December 2032, with the expected export of produced natural gas incorporated into the proposal.

Shell's initially submitted proposal intended to reinject all natural gas to enhance oil recovery from 2029 onward, but the timeline for reassessing the plan and the subsequent natural gas export date were not defined. The ANP and the Brazilian government have reservations about the full reinjection approach and are seeking to increase the commercial utilization of natural gas domestically.

The approval process began in June and was delayed following requests from Directors Pietro Mendes and Symone Araújo. The rapporteur subsequently submitted an updated opinion on Friday (7th), setting the revision for 2032.
