en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 7, the Guinean government selected Glencore through an international tender as the offtake partner for the state-owned Nimba Mining Company's bauxite. The two parties are still negotiating contract terms; the offtake volume, agreement duration, and pricing mechanism have not yet been disclosed, and the final offtake contract has not been signed.

Nimba Mining is wholly owned by the Guinean government and operates the Tinguilinta mine, along with its associated railway and port facilities. Since 2026, the company has exported over 4 million tons of bauxite, with a full-year export target of 10 million tons, planned to increase to 12 million tons by 2027, reaching the design capacity of the existing mining area. Following its selection, Glencore will participate in the international sales of these additional volumes, though the specific offtake share remains subject to the finalization of the contract.

Nimba Mining was established in August 2025 and subsequently took over mining assets previously operated by Guinea Alumina Corporation, a subsidiary of Emirates Global Aluminium. The former operator had been in dispute with the Guinean government over the construction of an alumina refinery, and the relevant mining rights and assets were subsequently transferred to Nimba Mining. In May 2026, Guinea and Emirates Global Aluminium reached a settlement, providing a framework for the asset transfer and subsequent ore supply arrangements.

After completing the asset takeover and resuming production, Nimba Mining formally signed a mining agreement with the Guinean government on August 3, which was approved by decree. The agreement covers the extraction, transportation, and export operations of the Tinguilinta mine, while also defining the project's rights and obligations regarding taxation, customs, environmental, and social responsibilities, providing an operational basis for mine expansion and long-term investment.

In addition to expanding bauxite exports, Nimba Mining is advancing a feasibility study for an alumina refinery with an annual capacity of 1.2 million tons. Guinea exported approximately 183 million tons of bauxite in 2025, making it a major global supplier of bauxite. The selection of an international commodity trader to offtake products from state-owned mines represents the latest development in the country's efforts to strengthen ore sales and export management while expanding the operational scale of its state-owned mining assets.
