Wedoany.com Report-Jun 5, The construction of the operations and maintenance (O&M) base for the 1.5 GW Baltica 2 offshore wind farm began with a groundbreaking ceremony at the Port of Ustka, Poland. The event was attended by representatives from PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna, Ørsted, the general contractor Doraco, and the contract engineer Sweco Polska, alongside government officials, local authorities, and special guests.

Bartosz Fedurek, CEO of PGE Baltica, stated: “The Ustka base is an excellent example of the involvement of Polish industry in the implementation of offshore wind energy projects. From the very beginning until today, over 30 entities have been involved in the project – all domestic. And taking into account the construction process itself and then the many years of operation of such facilities, we can count on an even greater participation of companies from Pomerania in the entire supply chain in the future.”

The O&M base, spanning over 2.3 hectares on the western side of the Słupia River, will include an office and warehouse building, a maneuvering area, and a quay for service vessels to transport crews to the offshore wind farm. Construction is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2026. The facility will serve as the operational hub for the Baltica 2 project, located approximately 40 kilometers off Poland’s coast, with commissioning expected in 2027.

Fedurek added: “The Ustka base will be the operational heart of our offshore wind projects. This is where service and logistics activities for the Baltica 2 farm will be coordinated, and in the future also for other offshore wind farms. This is where ongoing monitoring, planned inspections and servicing of wind turbines in the Baltic Sea will be carried out.”

The Baltica 2 wind farm will feature 107 Siemens Gamesa 14 MW-222 turbines, mounted on monopiles supplied by Navantia-Windar and Steelwind Nordenham. The project highlights significant local involvement, with over 30 Polish companies contributing to its development, strengthening the regional supply chain.

The Ustka O&M base will support ongoing maintenance and logistics for Baltica 2 and potentially other future offshore wind projects in the Baltic Sea. This initiative underscores Poland’s commitment to renewable energy and economic growth through local industry participation. By fostering sustainable energy infrastructure, the project enhances the region’s role in the global transition to clean energy, ensuring reliable operations and long-term environmental benefits.
