Currently, only the injectable form of Wegovy is available in Portugal, with doses of 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 1.7 mg, and 2.4 mg, priced between €150 and €200. Novo Nordisk outlined this current market situation in a statement released to CNN Portugal.

The oral Wegovy therapy has been approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), but the specific launch date for the tablets in Portugal has not yet been determined. Based on treatment cases already conducted in the United States, Novo Nordisk explains that treatment begins with a once-daily 1.5 mg dose, gradually increasing to 4 mg, 9 mg, and 25 mg, with each dose level maintained for four weeks. The maintenance dose is 25 mg daily, and treatment must follow the guidance of the attending physician.

Although there is no clear timeline for the sale of the tablets in Portugal, this oral obesity treatment is already being sold in the United States, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates.

Novo Nordisk also stated that the 7.2 mg injectable version (pre-filled, single-dose pen) may enter the Portuguese market in the coming months, with pricing expected to be similar to other competing weight-loss injection pens. Based on this estimate, the product is expected to be priced at €400 in Portugal, comparable to the price of Mounjaro.

To improve treatment accessibility and promote adherence to obesity therapy, Novo Nordisk has reduced the prices of its medications by 19%. The Danish pharmaceutical company views obesity as a chronic disease requiring long-term treatment.
