en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 21, Spanish pharmaceutical company ESTEVE announced that its contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) business, ESTEVE CDMO, has completed the relocation, expansion, and modernization upgrade of its active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing base in Shaoxing, China, with Phase I investment exceeding USD 80 million. The new facility features 3 production workshops with an initial total reaction volume of 250 cubic meters and reserves more than 150 cubic meters of space for subsequent expansion, allowing the total reaction volume to be expanded to over 400 cubic meters in the future, further enhancing its capacity for small-molecule APIs and pharmaceutical intermediates.

The new Shaoxing base is equipped with a centralized control center, automated production systems, digital management facilities, raw and auxiliary material warehousing, and office buildings, with expansion conditions reserved for both the production area and utility systems. The 3 production workshops handle the manufacturing of small-molecule APIs and related intermediates, with the initial 250 cubic meters of reaction volume forming the current production capacity foundation; the additional reserved reaction volume will be built out gradually according to future production needs.

ESTEVE CDMO provides contract development and manufacturing of small-molecule APIs and pharmaceutical intermediates globally, with technical capabilities including spray drying and high-potency active pharmaceutical ingredient (HPAPI) manufacturing. The Shaoxing base, together with the company's production facilities in Europe, the Americas, and Asia, forms a global manufacturing network that provides process development, production, and related manufacturing services to pharmaceutical companies.

The new facility adopts environmental, health, and safety management requirements in its design and operations, has obtained a "Very Good" rating under the BREEAM building environmental assessment system, and has been shortlisted for the China BREEAM Awards. Sun Xuejie, General Manager of the company's China and Mexico operations, stated that the Shaoxing base upgrade covers manufacturing technology, automation, and digital capabilities, and that subsequent production facilities can be further expanded according to customer needs.

ESTEVE entered the Chinese market in 2000 through a joint venture and has been conducting production operations in China for more than 20 years. The new Shaoxing base takes over the existing manufacturing operations in China, expands the production workshops and reaction system configuration, and integrates the related production capacity into ESTEVE CDMO's global contract manufacturing system.
