Linde UK Acquires Two 1,800-Ton-Per-Day Air Separation Units in India and Supplies Gas to Tata Steel
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 21, industrial gas and engineering company Linde announced that it had completed the acquisition and operational integration of two large air separation units at the Kalinganagar industrial park in Odisha, India, expanding its long-term industrial gas supply to Tata Steel. Each of the two units has a designed processing capacity of 1,800 tons per day. The asset transfer was completed and gas supply began on September 30, doubling Linde's on-site gas supply capacity at the Tata Steel complex and bringing its total regional oxygen supply capacity to more than 7,000 tons per day.

The two air separation units are located within Tata Steel's Kalinganagar Phase II expansion project and mainly produce oxygen, nitrogen and argon, providing industrial gases for blast furnace ironmaking, steelmaking and other metallurgical processes. Linde India signed the asset transfer documents with Tata Steel on September 30, acquired ownership of the two units, and assumed the related industrial gas supply business from the same day.
Linde's cooperation with Tata Steel began with the existing industrial gas supply business. On October 24, 2024, the two parties signed an agreement under which Linde would take over two air separation units then under construction at the Kalinganagar complex while expanding long-term oxygen, nitrogen and argon supply. Linde had previously operated two air separation units at the complex, and the newly acquired facilities increase the number of air separation units operating on site to four.
Tata Steel is implementing an expansion project at its Kalinganagar steel production base, with plans to increase annual capacity from 3 million tons to 8 million tons. The additional air separation facilities are tasked with supplying industrial gases after the expansion. In addition to meeting Tata Steel's production needs, Linde will also use its regional gas supply network to supply gases to surrounding industrial customers.
The project also includes supporting renewable energy procurement arrangements. Linde previously signed relevant power supply agreements to purchase renewable electricity for the new air separation units and has integrated the Kalinganagar facilities into its Indian industrial gas production and supply network.
