en.Wedoany.com Reported - VIA Rail Canada has launched the development of the Dorval Multimodal Hub. Located in Dorval, the project aims to connect passenger rail services, public transit, and Montréal-Trudeau International Airport.

The hub will bring VIA Rail and exo rail services together with shuttle service to YUL Montréal-Trudeau International Airport in a single location.

The project site is located near the Dorval terminus operated by the Société de transport de Montréal (STM), and will establish a connection between the airport and the rail and public transit networks serving Montreal's West Island.

Construction and engineering firm Construction Kiewit Cie has been selected as the design and construction partner. VIA Rail is advancing the project in collaboration with the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM), exo, and Aéroports de Montréal (ADM).

The current joint development phase will determine the hub's detailed design and clarify how the various transit services—rail, bus, and airport shuttle—will be integrated. The partners will also assess technical requirements, identify potential construction challenges, and develop more detailed project cost and schedule estimates. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, depending on the completion of the development work.

Mathieu Paquette, President and Chief Executive Officer of VIA Rail Canada, stated that improving the rail experience begins before passengers board the train. The company brought together Kiewit, exo, ARTM, and ADM to develop this hub in order to meet the real needs of the Dorval community and the 250,000 passengers who use the station each year, with the goal of providing passengers with more efficient and more convenient public transit solutions.

Under the plan, the VIA Rail and exo stations will be co-located at the existing exo site, and the airport shuttle will also be integrated into the same hub. Passengers will be able to transfer directly between rail, public transit, and the airport without having to move between separate facilities. The existing VIA Rail station in Dorval welcomes approximately 250,000 passengers annually, and this change will reduce transfer times and improve the predictability of travel between the different transportation networks.

As part of a broader regional connectivity plan, this project aims to improve links between the airport and communities on Montreal's West Island, offering travelers more options for reaching the airport without relying entirely on road transportation.

The joint development phase is led by Construction Kiewit, working with Arup Canada Inc. and Ædifica Inc. on design and construction work.
