en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Nenets Autonomous Okrug (NAO) will launch two oil field projects—Layavozhskoye and Komandirshorskoye—in 2026, ending years of stagnant oil production in the region. Governor Irina Gecht announced the plan during a report to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Nenets Autonomous Okrug holds substantial oil and natural gas reserves, yet development has remained limited. Gecht noted that only 34% of the region's oil and 2% of its natural gas have been extracted to date. The commissioning of the new fields is expected to create approximately 300 jobs.

The Layavozhskoye field is being developed jointly by Gazprom and Lukoil, with the latter set to commence operations at the Komandirshorskoye field in September. Gecht said that during social surveys, many residents noted it had been a long time since new oil and gas fields were discovered in the area, making these projects symbolic for the region.

Oil companies have also implemented a series of joint civilian projects with local authorities. Zarubezhneft is introducing modern solutions in distributed energy, with heat pump technology already deployed at the Kharyaga field. In 2026, this technology will be piloted in combination with solar panels and wind turbines in standalone heating systems for residential settlements in the region.
